I started the Passion Immortal project with the intent of creating a monumental and introspective journey through the mind via sound. The purpose of this project was to create something to listen to all alone, in the dark, or in another environment where the only thing around is yourself and your thoughts. Unlike most other music, the environment and frame of mind are a hugely important part of the experience, and as such requires these "limitations" to really have the proper effect. The better the sound quality, the better the result as well, since the style of music is really that which is supposed to envelop you in sound, rather than just be identifiable instruments playing "regular" melodies comming from what you can easily identify as your speakers. Essentially, The ultimate realization of this project would be on a 5.1 system, not headphones, at reasonably high volumes. The type of music i choose to use almost ALWAYS is best suited for night-time listening in the dark, as well.

Essentially, Passion Immortal is just me making a compilation of work from my favorite "mood" artists, but the reason i bothered using the pieces to make one was that I was starting to notice my favorite "moments" of music, were not my favorites because of the individual sections, but because of the transitions between sections. So i spent a couple of years finding those "magic" transitions between pieces, intending to make the whole so much greater than just the sum of its parts. With a lot of editing, arranging, and sacreligious butchering of the music from many different artists, each mix comes together feeling like a single unified piece rather than a bunch of random songs stuck together.

If you do decide to try out this project, i hope that you will find the time and place to listen to it appropriately. It's not casual music by any means, and much of the point will be lost if you listen that way. With the mixes consisting of "songs" of 20-60 minutes in length, it is rather difficult to find the time and place for it, but i promise you will have an interesting experience if you do.

I have intentionally not mentioned any of the artists and pieces used on the Passion Immortal compilations because i want the experience to be a bit of a suprise, and i want to further emphasize the point that these were really done with the goal of becomming a single musical experience, not simply many songs played in succession that you could press stop after each one and not miss anything. If you have any questions about artists and specific parts you'd like to explore further, feel free to email me and i'll let you know what was used.
